10+ Online teacher communities to help you learn, connect & grow

Online communities are a lifeline for many remote teachers – a way to share ideas, get support, and stay inspired, no matter where you are or what you teach.

How to choose the right mix of teacher communities for you:

  1. Finding the right community starts with knowing what you need. Some spaces offer quick advice and tips, others provide free resources, and a few create a close-knit environment for creating real friendships.

  2. Consider different formats for different needs, like active Reddit threads for stories and ideas, Facebook groups for lesson plans (and that drams), or private communities where you can get real value from others on the same journey as you.

  3. We already stretch our budget as teachers, and there are a ton of free resources all across the internet. So consider carefully what you’re willing to pay for, so that you know when to use shared resources and when to invest in your personal and professional tools. Paid communities like TeachersConnect can provide more advanced and personalized support.

  4. Make an intentional effort to introduce yourself, share your wins or struggles, and ask questions that matter to your classroom or career.

  5. Give back and add to the discussion, share perspectives, and resources.

  6. Remember that anyone from your network could also be in these groups, so be kind and supportive, respect the community guidelines, and avoid venting or oversharing.

  7. Have some fun, meet some people, and get a feel for the vibe and quality of resources and events over time.

  8. If you need to take a break or just observe quietly for a while, that’s totally normal (I am all for setting boundaries as a teacher – your time is valuable!). But if you don’t see yourself participating, consider letting your spot go so someone more eager can join.
